Almost Home

RJS partnered with Family Promise of Hendricks County starting in 2022 with the opening of the Almost Home Shelter.

Almost Home is an overnight shelter for families experiencing homelessness. They have 5000 square feet for their shelter home with 7 bedrooms. The shelter is a place where families can recover from the trauma of homelessness and begin to rebuild their lives. The Family Advocates provide intense, individualized case management to help families take the necessary steps toward lasting stability.

We love it when Family Promise shares stories of their residents.

When young mother, Lucide, found herself with nowhere to go and no family to go to, she found Family Promise. While she settled into the safe space, she faced the challenge of loneliness. Paula, one of their volunteers, began visiting her weekly. Over time, the two have built a beautiful friendship. This is what Family Promise is all about.

Another story is of Ariel. Ariel is currently staying in their shelter and came home from school the other day beaming with excitement. She had just participated in her school’s walkathon and proudly shared the medal she earned. For Ariel, this was more than a medal, but a feeling of accomplishment and feeling like every other kid. In the midst of the uncertainty her family is facing, this small but powerful victory reminded Family Promise of why they do what they do.
